Operations Manager

We are currently recruiting for 2 x Operations Managers at Wolverhampton – EMC. Responsibilities will include planning, directing and coordinating the Operations whilst driving performance, productivity and efficiency through the implementation of effective methods and strategies.

 

About the Role

 Health Safety and Environmental

  • Drive behavioural based safety throughout the plant and ensure delivery of the HS&E KPI’s and take ownership of key actions that relate to operational safety.
  • Work to be compliant with the Company’s environmental, health and safety standards and rules.
  • Leveraging a strong background in lean manufacturing and continuous improvement, move the plant forwards in its journey of Zero Harm.

 

Quality / Lean

  • Assist with the implementation of the X-policy Matrix and daily and weekly metrics aligned to customer demand which supports the operational strategy.
  • Create and implement best practice in manufacturing, policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve operational performance.
  • Identify and execute business improvement opportunities and justify with the appropriate rationale and implementation of these projects based on future growth plans.
  • Oversee & review root cause analysis data and identify trends that indicate a change in performance and implement an action plan accordingly.
  • Instigate continuous improvement initiatives and lead the change within operational activities ensuring that the SMART ideas are captured and implemented and could increase output, save time and effort.
  • Implement and manage continuous improvement and modern manufacturing principals by highlighting deficiencies and recommending changes in training, working practices and processes so to aid and improve operational performance.
  • Adaptable so to promote and drive changes led by business demand, with the ability to influence change requirements.

 

Delivery

  • Manage the daily activities of the logistics linefeed operation to maximise scheduling and delivery of commodities to the customer.
  • Interface with the customer to ensure smooth coordination of scheduling and maximization of schedule adherence.
  • Enact contingency plans as needed and escalate and direct activities during operational problems etc.
  • Identify potential problems, troubleshoot, escalate issues to local and senior management and participate in analysis of problems providing input for future process improvements.
  • Review and improve ongoing performance results to targets.
  • Own the Operations processes, ensuring all metrics are relevant and have targets that ensure problem solving is being driven by the team on a daily basis. Eg. Schedule adherence, performance utilisation, adherence to budget and near miss reporting.
  • Lead the factory cadence and execution to ensure all plant metrics, SQDIP (safety, quality, delivery, inventory and productivity) are met.


Cost

  • Allocation & management of budgets, including overtime, headcount, department costs aligned to customer demand requirements and demonstrate the ability to flex costs accordingly.

 

People

  • Responsible for providing effective leadership to the supervisors and/or team, enforcing Company standard and act as a role model. Proactively engage with the workforce to adopt a continuous improvement approach.
  • Management of the team, including coaching, motivation, appraisals, reviews, KPI's, one-2-one meetings, disciplinary matters and grievances as required. Ensure 6 monthly and 12 monthly appraisals with the team and set SMART objectives for each individual.
  • Manages staff and attendance, including holiday entitlement.
  • Further develop customer relationships by communicating with stakeholders.
  • Responsible for managing and developing employees by building positive and proactive working relationships.

 

The Successful Applicant;

  • Production Manager / Operations Manager within a similar manufacturing / logistics environment with a proven management record.
  • Ideally educated to degree level with a background in logistics engineering.
  • Able to demonstrate a track record of idea creation and implementing change.
  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing and understanding of continuous improvement techniques.
  • Knowledge of SAP and scheduling systems.
  • Progressive experience performing professional level operational and plant management duties, preferably in automotive or logistics industry.
  • Ability to make effective and persuasive presentations on complex topics to top management and customer.
  • Proficient use of software applications such as word, Excel, PowerPoint and Accesses. Data analyses, SAP or other electronic logistical inventory management systems is a requirement.
  • A good communicator who can communicate complex ideas.
  • A strong team player, actively leads, develops and supports team members.
  • Comfortable challenging with strong influencing and engagement skills - able to challenge existing thinking in a positive way whilst building credibility and trust through experience and personal style.
  • A dynamic and determined individual, highly driven, committed and results-orientated with significant pace, energy and confidence. Able to combine a short term, pragmatic focus with strategic vision.

Essential:

  • Relevant previous experience of managing teams including consistent delivery of production targets.
  • Proven technical knowledge and skills with a broad understanding of the interfaces into multiple departments .
  • Ability to quickly understand and challenge Logistics processes.
  • ERP Systems knowledge (SAP).
  • Understanding of Logistics methods and procedures.
  • Good analytical skills in data control and understanding of production processes.
  • Experience of Customer Relationship Management.
  • Good problem-solving techniques and understanding of lean manufacturing principals.
  • Competency in MS Excel, Word, Powerpoint.

 

Desirable:

  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience in Logistics preferred.
  • MS Access or other database application.
  • Ability to stand in for the Plant Manager when required.
