Health and Safety Lead

About the role

For our ever-evolving site in Waalwijk, we are looking for an enthusiastic Health and Safety Lead to join our team! This exciting position is on-site role that w​​​​​ill oversee and ensure compliance with Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) standards and regulations within DP World. Key responsibilities include developing and maintaining EHS systems, representing the company during audits and internal meetings, ensuring safety compliance by inspecting facilities and machinery, managing incident investigations and risk assessments, and providing support and guidance to employees and staff representation. The ultimate goal is to sustain a safe and compliant work environment through the implementation of safety procedures, continuous improvement, and employee support and education.

 

How will you contribute?

  • Support and drive all topics around Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) & Compliance and be the main contact for audits;
  • Identify, develop, and maintain company environmental as well as health and safety management systems, training programs, and procedures in line with all current legislation;
  • Maintain contacts with third parties such as the Environmental Services, Environmental Services, Human Environment & Transport - and Labor Inspectorate;
  • Design and develop written environmental, health and safety procedures. Monitor, revise, and implement ongoing updates in respective regulations, laws or reporting requirements;
  • Provide technical environmental, safety and health support and information to site EHS-Coordinators and Prevention Officers;
  • Represent the company at external audits on all environmental, health and safety matters. Ensure compliance to audit standards and work with auditors and vendors to answer findings and complaints in a timely, efficient, and professional manner;
  • Represent the company at any internal EHS & compliance meetings, key contact for customer or supplier in EHS & compliance topics and meetings presenting data, recording actions, and monitoring the progress of those actions;
  • Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety and environmental regulation compliance. This will include property in and around the facility. Review plans and specifications for the development of new machinery, equipment, or processes to determine whether all safety requirements have been met. Manage and support all documentation related to material handling equipment;
  • Investigate accidents to include gathering all documentation in line with company policies, compiling all documentation relating to any insurance claims made against the company;
  • Giving coordination to the Prevention Officers such as drawing up and updating the Risk Inventory and Evaluations and other risk assessment instruments such as: project RI&E, task risk analysis, personal risk analysis, work equipment and process risk analyses; drawing up an Action plan based on the RI&E. Periodically identifying, checking, and evaluating the progress of the implementation of the Action plan and drawing up an annual health and safety report, which includes the topicality of the RI&E;
  • Be the point of contact for employees; liaise and cooperate with staff representation (Works Council, Safety Committee or interested employees) and advise them; participate in internal and external consultations; maintain knowledge and skills at a high level through continuing education and peer review.

 

Your Key Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in an Environmental, Health & Safety position, preferably within a logistics (warehouse) or manufacturing environment;
  • Good knowledge of Dutch labor and safety laws, norms and policies;
  • Internal and external auditing experience (ISO45001, ISO14001);
  • Degree in Safety Management/Veiligheidskunde (HVK, MVK) is strongly preferred;
  • Emergency Responsiveness (BHV certification) and X-Ray technology knowledge level: Toezichthoudend Medewerker Stralingsbescherming (TMS) are preferred;
  • Experience and/or knowledge of Dangerous Goods/Hazardous substances (ADR+PGS15+PGS37-2) is preferred;
  • Familiar with country specific health and safety standards, including OSHA, ISO, and internal audit qualifications. Understanding of DOT compliance and EPA environmental regulations;
  • Good IT skills affinity with the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) as well as EHS tools/information systems;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to establish effective working relationships and influence stakeholders within all departments and levels of the organization;
  • Fluent proficiency in English language is required, Dutch language proficiency (upper intermediate level) is strongly preferred;

  • Fulltime available, based and authorized to work in the Netherlands with the ability to work on-site in Waalwijk, possession of a driver's license and car is desired.
