Senior Procurement Manager - Industrial Packaging (German speaking)

We are looking to recruit a senior Procurement Manager, specialized in Industrial Packaging, located in The Netherlands with near native German language skills, both spoken and written. Within our growing Procurement team, you will serve as primary liaison to stakeholders throughout the packaging lifecycle. You will be responsible for delivering every project on time within budget and scope. This exciting new role within our EMEA procurement team is being created to build and grow our packaging team. A small team currently deals with many materials including corrugate and plastic, supplying customers ranging from ecommerce to automotive/industrial. 


We are looking for a candidate with extensive management experience in packaging procurement at a European level, ideally with a strong background in timber/industrial type packaging buying to compliment team. You should have experience in packaging category management, strategic sourcing on European level, understanding of contract principles, SAP and other ERP systems to drive analytics, forecasting methods, indexation mechanisms and industrial packaging materials.

 

Your tasks & responsibilities 

It is important that you’re a team player and have drive but also be able to manage and grow the team in a currently extremely demanding material group whilst dealing with internal and external stakeholders on daily basis. You will create processes and analytical tools to drive decisions and influence change building the team by implementing a new core fundamental strategic sourcing plan from ground up post covid. 

  • You will support the team in supplier management to include supplier development plans, reviews and develop and build a robust risk management system of our supply chain. 
  • Analyse and validate contracts and agreements from the team with legal for approval.
  • Lead and support team on annual cost reduction strategies to include but not limited to price negotiation, innovative improvements, standardisation and consolidation. 
  • Utilising specialist packaging knowledge in industrial packaging to support automotive business RFQ’s and existing business i.e. pallets. 
  • Support local stakeholders and planners to ensure continuity of supply is maintained, ensure no stock outs or deviation from specifications. 
  • Support and lead implementation of KPIs, dashboards or any analytical tool to support ordering processes in operations. 
  • Manage direct reports, provide guidance and positive support. 

 

You will also be supporting new business projects from RFQ to launch working with and supporting our category leads in packaging and automation to ensure they bring new market innovations to the customer and develop the right solutions.
 

In this position you report to the European Procurement Director with an expectation to define a new packaging strategy post covid for the team. You will work closely with our packaging lead and wider team to set these priorities while ensuring safety, availability, reliability, quality, total cost of ownership, sustainability and safety are met in deliveries from suppliers and contractors.
 

What we expect from you

  • At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in e.g. logistics, supply chain management ideally industrial packaging purchasing experience. 
  • Accustomed to managing a team in a demanding fast paced reactive need environment.
  • Strong communication skills to work with both internal and external clients.
  • You are fluent in German and English.
  • Analytical and fact-based thinking.
  • A strong ability to structure and organize multiple activities and work within short demanding timeframes.
  • In this role you travel 25% of your time, mainly in Germany, Great Britain, Netherlands and Italy.
  • In addition, you are ambitious, innovative thinker, proactive but also reactive so able to think outside the box quickly and adapt to changing situations in the packaging markets.
