Category Procurement Manager | Logistic Equipment & Automation

As a Category Procurement manager – Logistic Equipment & Automation for Logistics and Ports & Terminals within the Central European Procurement Team you are in the lead to Develop, lead, maintain expert knowledge of for a highly complex category and stakeholder group. Focusing on Strategic sourcing, supplier management and performance, risk management and commercial negotiations.


In this role you will independently initiate, draft, validate & sign off, implement and execute procurement strategy for the Logistics and Ports & Terminals Automation category across Europe for all DP World Logistics and Ports & Terminals business. You are expected to take ownership for your results and you develop and build strong relationships with your supply base to reach best in class results in cost, technology and quality. A couple of current projects for the Logistic Automation Category are e.g. new warehouse in UK, Midlands, new racking/automation in our newest location in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, new conveyer systems for one of our clients in the UK. You report directly into the Head of Category Procurement -Packaging & Automation. We are looking to recruit a candidate based in The Netherlands or Germany, close to our hub in Duisburg. 

 

Key accountabilities: 

  • You are the Procurement Expert on all topics of Logistic automation as well as Ports & Terminals automation.
  • You will business partner with your stakeholder group on a strategic level and identifying their business needs by acting as their partner on procurement topics.
  • Independently initiate, draft, present, validate & sign off, implement and execute procurement strategy within the strategy of the procurement leadership team.   
  • Participate and lead cross functional local engineering and Launch teams as appropriate, provide a comprehensive review of:  categories, supply base, cost drivers, market trends, supplier rationalization plans, supply positioning, sourcing strategies, and strategic actions.
  • Generate and maintain accurate records according to established procedures for quotes, cost estimates, items, tooling, purchase orders, supplier performance, and commodity spend analysis, etc. 
  • Create and implement annual cost reduction strategies, including but not limited to:  negotiate pricing ensuring the lowest price up-front, source new business per the approved commodity strategy, implement packaging and Logistic improvements, etc.  
  • Identify potential commodity and/or supplier opportunity areas (e.g. standardization, supplier consolidation, new technologies, etc.), communicate potential opportunities internally and initiate activities to assemble appropriate resources to pursue opportunity areas
  • Make periodic visits to suppliers, perform risk assessments, onsite surveys, periodic supplier performance reviews, supplier development plans.  Maintain, re-evaluate, and develop robust risk management systems to promote appropriate competition and ensure suppliers continuity. 
  • Analyze and validate contracts and agreements and communicate appropriately with Legal Department for full approval.
  • Interface with supplier development for continuous improvement in the supply base, including but not limited to:  managing the supply base for a given commodity, focus on continuous improvement in quality, delivery, and value. Identify and develop suppliers with innovative technologies that reduce cost and increase our competitiveness.  
  • Identify strategic stakeholders within the Ports & Terminals Pilar and define current projects for the Ports & Terminal Automation Category.
  • Maintain timely and accurate knowledge of Logistic Automation categories and procurement. landscape and maintain accurate up-to-date cost records and analysis of trends.
  • Purchase automated solutions for sortation, robotics, storage, autonomous mobile robots, AGVs, warehouse integration, packaging, process equipment.
  • Manage supplier relationships on a strategic level for Logistic Automation Category.
  • Manage the contracts on a strategic level for Logistic Automation Category.
  • Identify business needs and collaborate with the Central European Procurement Team to initiate, draft and implement improvements, innovation and solutions for your (internal) customers.  

 

Requirements: 

  • you have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in related field of business, Supply Chain Management, Purchasing, Economics. 
  • Certified or actively seeking certification in CIPS/NEVI or equivalent.
  • 10 years of relevant experience in procuring Logistic Automation and Ports & Terminal Automation.
  • Preferably having a technical or automation background.
  • Proven experience to initiate, draft, validate, sign off and execute procurement strategy.  
  • Experience in strategic sourcing / strategic Procurement approach.
  • Proven experience in coping with pressure in a dynamic and demanding environment and in dealing with complex stakeholders-groups on a strategic level.
  • Able to develop, manage and influence key stakeholder relationships internally and externally.
  • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and coordinate sourcing activities for several sites in Europe and across different DP World pillars.
  • Experience working in a complex and international organization, self-starter and teamplayer and proven track record in driving leading categories on an European level.
  • Strategic mindset and ability to develop effective strategy for supplier selection and management of relationship.
  • Strong expert knowledge in the procurement landscape.
  • Proven experience in challenging, collaborating, influencing and convincing (strategic) stakeholders.
  • Ability to negotiate as an agent on the company’s behalf, ensuring the company is represented in the best possible way.
  • Proven experience in cross-functional teams that include internal and external customers, and suppliers.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, presentation and communication skills
  • Fluent in the English language on a business level and preferably an additional language.
  • Strong negotiating skills and analytical skills.
  • Ability to travel 25% within Europe.
