Operations/Hazmat Supervisor

We are looking for an experienced Operations Supervisor, based in Redford, MI, to plan, coordinate work, train, motivate, monitor and evaluate performance of team members at the facility. You will be responsible for providing guidance/direction to site leadership on the proper processes.  The required procedures and documentation for the shipping, handling and storage of hazardous materials to ensure compliance to the regulatory requirements.. How you will contribute

  • Plan, coordinate work, train, motivate, monitor and evaluate performance of team members; ensure their ability to safely operate material handling equipment to move materials.

  • Provide guidance/direction to site leadership on the proper processes.  The required procedures and documentation for the shipping, handling and storage of hazardous materials to ensure compliance to the regulatory requirements.

  • Monitor and measure team member performance for accuracy and document on daily production metrics.

  • Identify and eliminate safety and housekeeping hazards to minimize workplace accidents.

  • Ensure compliance of employees to processes, work instructions, standard work and work elements.

  • Liaise with materials department to ensure on time receipt and shipment of material.

  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Your Key Qualifications

  • HS Diploma/GED required

  • Experience supervising in an Automotive, Manufacturing, or Supply Chain/Logistics facility.

  • Experienced with at least two (2) years of journey level experience in hazardous materials management in the areas of storage, transportation, handling and disposal of hazardous materials and/or hazardous waste; monitoring and removal. 

  • Knowledgeable of hazardous materials management regulations, including its background, technology, principles, methods, techniques and problems; laws, regulations and codes governing hazardous materials; emergency response procedures and protocols; government agencies, community organizations and business establishments as they relate to environmental health and hazardous materials management, basic practices of the transportation and disposal of hazardous wastes.

  • Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR) course/certificate thru the IATA, or equivalent.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.

  • Experience and or training regarding the Occupational Health & Safety, 5S, Lean Methodologies preferred.

  • Quality systems knowledge - to a reasonable level be able to monitor staff performance and costs within the department (including, but not limited to: time-keeping, quality, productivity, etc.)
