Legal Counsel - Industrial Relations

We are now looking for an additional Industrial Relations Counsel who is specialized in labor law, industrial relations with Unions and codetermination rights of works councils as well as all aspects of German Labor Law on the edge between Legal and HR. In this crucial role, you will be responsible for strategic definition and enhancement of codetermination partnerships with unions and works councils, by providing in depth knowledge of collective labor law and establishing a strong network with union and employer representative associations as well as advice and support on all labor law related topics with a particular focus on the region of Eastern and South Germany. This position is hybrid and based in the area of Leipzig, Germany.

 

As a Industrial Relations Counsel, you will be a key strategic partner for the HR Country Cluster Lead and the European Legal Counsel Logistics while directly supporting the labor and industrial relations strategies. Furthermore, you will be responsible for developing the strategy and execution of Industrial Relations in the country aligned with the business needs.

Your Key Responsibilities:

Managing Labor Law topics including employment queries, contracts, disputes, negotiations and in particular industrial relations in close cooperation with HR Business Partners and Legal Counsels of labor law with a strong focus on collective labor law and tariff policy in an complex codetermination environment.

 

Responsible for:
- All manner of employment queries, contracts, disputes, negotiations;
- Defining and enhancing strategic codetermination partnerships;
- Actively driving and supporting strategic union and works council relationships;

- Leading and/ or supporting negotiations with unions and works councils;
- Creating and managing topics to be agreed with unions and works councils (especially unions and group works councils);
- Supporting supervisory board meetings on HR and Labor Law topics;
- Providing in-depth knowledge and legal advice to HR Business Partners, HR Cluster Leads and business leaders regarding Industrial Relations and Labor topics;
- Providing and implementing HR policies in line with the business and HR strategy;
- Managing legal HR aspects of TUPEs and redundancies;

- Acting as an ambassador for DP World at all times when working; promoting and demonstrating positive behaviours in harmony with DP World’s Principles, values and culture; ensuring the highest level of safety is applied in all activities; understanding and following DP World’s Code of Conduct and Ethics policies.

 

Your Background:
• Excellent academic credentials, fully qualified lawyer or with extensive experience and knowhow in German Labor Law and Industrial Relations;
• 5+ years of relevant experience within a law firm or an inhouse position with focus on Labor Law and Industrial Relations;
• Strong transaction management skills and excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a high degree of personal and professional integrity;

• Fluent professional proficiency in the German & English language is a must, any other European language proficiency is a plus;

• Based and authorized to work in Germany  with the ability to work hybrid in our locations in the area of Leipzig;

• The ability to undertake regular business travel to our different locations In Germany as well as occassional travel within the broader European region.
