Customs Specialist - Senior (NE)

The Customs Specialist will be responsible for overseeing the processing/shipping of outbound goods and ensuring they comply with customs regulations by tracking and documenting shipments, communication with customer and broker agents, categorizing shipments by product coding system, and reviewing coordinating documentation for accuracy.

 

How you will contribute

  • Coordinate paperwork and documentation necessary to comply with tariff and customs regulations.
  • Prepare and review customs related documents and broker invoices to ensure accurate coordination with freight carriers, broker agents and brand partners.
  • Maintain and update electronic files and shipping logs.
  • Evaluate all export transportation to ensure the timely customs release.
  • Manage email correspondence for departmental mailbox with key players both internal and external to support Logistics and Operations
  • Providing support as needed to the Import/Export department.
  • Draft and accurately check customs, trade, and transport documents for technical processing.
  • Prepare and handle transport declarations (T1/T2), declarations for import and export, and any other export documentation.
  • Control the day-to-day operational customs activities including but not limited to; risk determination, administrative process control, and internal recording to meet the required compliance.
  • Communicate with external customers about the handling of customs procedures and related issues.
  • Draft, apply, and supervise export documents via the appropriate organizations written and electronically, when assigned.
  • Advise the internal operational departments and the customs management framework on customs specific information as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Your Key Qualifications

 

  • 4-6 years experience
  • Experience in Import/ Export, Customs Brokerage/Freight Forwarding including knowledge of Harmonized Tariff classification and Import & Export requirements for international shipping.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels of seniority.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines, while maintaining a pro-active approach
  • Organization and attention to detail a must.
  • Experience in drafting electronic transport declarations and declarations for importing and exporting.
  • Thorough knowledge of origin and value provisions, customs laws and regulations, and other export documents both internationally and nationally.
  • Able to problem solve in stressful situations.
  • Customer-oriented, quality-conscious, and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Experience with International Dangerous Goods requirements.
