Payroll Manager - Senior

The Senior Manager, Payroll will take a leading role in managing the payroll department for North America providing guidance and decision making and ensure staff is fully trained and cross-trained. You will have oversight, develop, organize, implement, and direct the payroll processes and procedures and be a business partner for Management in all organizational and payroll related matters.

How you will contribute

  • Manage the payroll department for North America providing guidance and decision making and ensure staff is fully trained, cross-trained. 
  • Systems Administration and designate backup. 
  • Legislative compliance and related submissions and reporting for payroll, federal, state and municipal. 
  • Liaise with payroll provider on payroll discrepancies with IRS. 
  • Handle a variety of complex accounting duties in the preparation, processing, and maintenance of payroll. 
  • Review in house payroll for multiple entities, weekly and bi-weekly for US and CAN. 
  • Ensures all tax obligations are fulfilled at the local, state, and federal levels.  
  • Goal setting and performance reviews for all direct reports. 
  • Responsible for the professional development of payroll team members. 
  • Proactive communication and interaction with other departments to resolve issues impacting payroll functions. 
  • Understand how to set up Time and attendance for new locations and update existing T&A pay rules accordingly based on Collective Bargaining Agreement. 
  • Provide training to HR users of time and attendance and payroll systems, develop standard user training material. 
  • Report writing – ensure payroll provides reports for use by other departments (HR, benefits, finance and operations), focus on reporting standardization and efficiencies, consolidated reporting for North America where applicable. 
  • Support interface with other systems, i.e. HRIS and support efficiency of overall processes. 
  • Implement non-compliance report in E-time for distribution in an effort to improve efficiency: late payroll submissions, retro pay adjusts, manual checks. 
  • Support internal and external audit requirements while ensuring accuracy and timeliness of payroll and 
  • related submissions / reports and data retention of payroll records meet legislative requirements.  
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Your Key Qualifications

  • Specialized payroll training – CPP designation required. 
  • Payroll supervision/management – minimum 5-7 years’ experience required. 
  • SAP payroll preferred or large payroll platform system. 
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills. 
  • Experience working in a unionized automotive environment is valuable
