IT Purchasing Specialist

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity in IT purchasing? We have a job opening in Auburn Hills, MI, for an IT Purchasing Specialist. In this role, you will be responsible for delivering annual cost reduction objectives, managing the procurement process from start to finish, coordinating with other departments, managing vendor relationships, and ensuring compliance with procurement policies.

 

 

An IT purchasing specialist is responsible for managing the process of acquiring information technology goods and services required by an organization. This includes researching and identifying IT products and services, evaluating vendors, negotiating contracts, and coordinating with other departments to ensure that the procurement process runs smoothly.

 

Specific job responsibilities of an IT purchasing specialist may include:

  1. Delivering annual cost reduction objectives, including but not limited to:  negotiate price and terms, ensuring the lowest price up-front, and source new business per the regional category strategy.
  2. Managing the procurement process from start to finish, including requirements gathering, RFP development, facilitate bid process, evaluation, negotiations, expenditure approvals (AFEs), contract completion, purchase requisition, purchase order, managing delivery schedule, and invoice issue resolution of goods and services.
  3. Coordinating with other departments (IT, Finance, Operations, Legal, PMO) to ensure that the procurement process meets their needs and requirements.
  4. Managing vendor relationships, resolve issues, and monitoring vendor performance to ensure that service levels are met.
  5. Keeping up-to-date with industry trends and developments in IT procurement and making recommendations to improve the procurement process.
  6. Ensuring compliance with procurement policies and procedures, and applicable laws and regulations.
  7. Proficiency in IT Lease and Asset Management.
  8. Purchase indirect materials and services, capital equipment, packaging, MRO, and other categories of items as assigned, ensuring lowest total cost is achieved.

 

To be successful in this role, an IT purchasing specialist must have strong analytical and negotiation skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and be highly organized and detail-oriented. Candidate should also have a good understanding of IT products and services, and be able to work collaboratively with other departments within the organization. A bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as business administration, information technology or procurement, is required, along with relevant work experience in procurement or a related field.

 

An IT purchasing specialist requires a combination of technical and soft skills to perform their job effectively. Technical skills required include:

  1. Knowledge of IT products and services: An IT procurement specialist must have a good understanding of different types of hardware, software, and IT services, networks, telecommunications as well as the latest trends and developments in the industry.
  2. Terms and Conditions: An IT procurement specialist will negotiate terms and conditions as required and coordinate responses with legal.
  3. Data analysis: The ability to analyze data and identify trends is important for forecasting demand, optimizing procurement processes, and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
  4. Financial analysis: An IT procurement specialist should have knowledge of financial analysis and budgeting, including the ability to evaluate vendor pricing and negotiate contracts that meet budget requirements.
  5. Contract management: Understanding of contract management principles and practices, including the ability to negotiate contract terms and ensure compliance with contract requirements.
  6. Vendor management: Knowledge of vendor management principles and facilitating Quarterly Business Reviews.
  7. Proficiency in SAP to create standard purchase orders, contracts, framework agreements, blankets, goods receipt process, invoice reconciliation, reporting, and data analytics.
