Logistics Process Engineer

For our Technology division in Amsterdam we are looking for a Logistics Engineer who can lead our engineering activities focused on identifying and implementing innovative yet technically proven solutions to resolve logistics/supply chain challenges. Someone with a hands-on approach, solution- oriented thinking, passionate about technology combined with years of experience in logistics field.

About the Role

In this position, you will

  • Work closely with the nominated SMEs across all disciplines to align the internal and external requirements and deliverables to design, analyse, document, present, review and plan the implementation of the customer solutions, from an engineering perspective.
  • Design customer specific, innovative and best in class solutions to support major operational scope changes with a goal of increasing throughput and efficiency.
  • Provide engineering support towards operations and new warehouse setup by designing floor layouts considering/simulating people, machine and material flow.
  • From an engineering perspective, lead in optimising operational work-flows by evaluating, modeling, and optimizing material stocks and flows.
  • Apply practical logistics and supply chain knowledge, develop and manage/monitor implementation of logistics solutions and business processes that are optimized for speed, accuracy, cost efficiency, capacity and flexibility.
  • Review material flow, order processing schedules, processes, specifications, procedure documents, Standard Work Instructions, and related information to design logistics processes that maximize efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Work to standardize, optimise and where possible automate repeating elements of our operational processes with engineering methodologies & best practices such as process mapping/analysis, value stream mapping, related & applicable Six Sigma tools etc.
  • Collect, organise, and analyse data using metrics, analysis tools and key performance indicators (KPI’s) to prioritize and execute improvement opportunities.
  • Resolve problems related to process improvement by analyzing internal and external data, including operations, inventory, quality, transportation and customer information
  • Challenge performance of equipment suppliers, review support contracts, and lead successful implementation of new tools/machinery within the warehouse as applicable.
  • Proactively support root cause analysis and related investigation by both identifying and implementing fail-proof (poke-yoke) solutions.
  • Work with external partners in the development of automated material handling systems and storage solutions that meet the requirements of solution proposals.

Your Key Qualifications and skills

Required Skills

  • Master’s or a bachelor’s degree in Logistics/Industrial/Manufacturing Engineering.

  • 5 to 6 years of proven experience in leading or being part of an engineering organisation within a warehouse/supply-chain set up; preferably within the technology industry. Good understanding and exposure to supply chain and/or manufacturing process is a mandatory requirement for this role.

  • Experience in designing floor layouts, in using AutoCAD, visualization and simulation software, Warehouse Management Systems, and ERP systems.

  • Experience in Lean, Kaizen, and Six Sigma methodologies, leading projects & reporting/presenting results.

  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects, effective project planning in terms of resources, strategies, cost, and time with ability to meet project timelines.

  • Strong computer proficiency in MS Office applications, experience with Chrome OS (Google Suite) would be beneficial.

  • Business and project management experience in a corporate setting 

  • Experience with decision making and influencing ability as these traits are crucial for being able to successfully drive the implementation of changes.

  • Excellent communication skills will ease both team and cross functional work for allowing trustworthy network building. 

  • Good presentation skills: ability to communicate and present findings effectively across all levels of the business.

 

Nice to Have Skills

  • Experience in solution design to customer RFQs including labor standard calculations, material handling equipment (MHE) calculations, space and storage design, and project management of multiple contributing disciplines.

  • Experience in warehouse design/operations, slotting, and launch of warehouse operations will be an advantage.

  • Perform data analysis and reporting on large datasets from multiple sources.
